Comments, locking and deleting
Let the crew respond to a post, close the thread when it's done, and take a notice down without losing its record. About two minutes.
The short version
Every post has a comment thread underneath it, and field workers can use it. You can Remove a comment that shouldn't be there, click Lock thread when the conversation is done, and Delete announcement when the post itself must go, which archives it with its acknowledgement trail, because that trail is a safety record.
-
Open the announcement. Click Open on the post in the feed. The Comments thread sits below the post and its files.
The thread. Anyone who can see the post can write in it, including the crew. - Let the crew have their say. Anyone types in Add a comment and clicks Comment. There are no thumbs-up reactions: if the new tie-down point won't work, a worker says so in words, and you read it in the office. That's the point.
- Remove a comment that shouldn't be there. Click Remove under it. Everyone can remove their own comment; admins can remove anyone's. The thread then shows (removed) in its place. The gap is honest, so a conversation never silently rewrites itself.
- Lock the thread when the conversation is done. Click Lock thread at the bottom of the comments. The crew then sees "This thread is locked; no new comments." Existing comments stay readable, and Unlock thread reopens it any time.
-
Delete the announcement if the post itself must go. Click Delete announcement at the bottom of the page. Dayboard confirms first: the post disappears from the crew's feed, and its acknowledgement trail is kept.
Everything on this page survives deletion: managers can still open the post and see who acknowledged what, and when. - Check the record held. Open the deleted post from your own feed's history and you'll see the banner: "This announcement was deleted. It is kept here with its trail, and the crew can no longer see it." Why it works this way: "who was told about the trench collapse risk, and when" is a question you may be asked long after the post stopped being useful, so the answer is never deletable.
Worth knowing
- Comments, not reactions. A thumbs-up tells you nothing at an audit. A comment is words, with a name and a time on it.
- Locking is for "done", not for "quiet". A weather call from last week doesn't need an open thread. A live safety alert probably does: a worker spotting a problem with the new rule is the system working.
- Removed comments leave a visible gap. (removed) stays in the thread, so nobody can claim the conversation went differently.
- Deleting never touches the trail. Acknowledgements are never updated or deleted, by anyone, including admins, the same rule that runs the chase list.
